Midwinter Naturist Festival - February 11-16
Midwinter Naturist Festival - February 11-16
Tired of the winter blahs? Plan to attend the Midwinter Naturist Festival, February 11-16, 2010, at Sunsport Gardens in Loxahatchie, Florida. The Festival is styled as a fund raiser for the Naturist Action Committee, and it incorporates more workshops and events than you can possibly attend!
However, there's nothing that prevents you from using the Festival as a reason to relax among hundreds of friends in the sun of a mild Florida winter.

Dear NAC.
I wanted to write to let you know my disappointment in your organization for your promotion of the so called Midwinter Naturist Festival at at Sunsport Gardens in Loxahatchie, Florida.
You have always claimed to be an organization that promotes the concept that naturism isn’t about sex, yet here you go supporting an highly sexualized event.
You only have to go to the web site of the link you provided to see that this is the case. Their schedule of events includes the following:
Ancient Roman Sex & Fun - Kira Fleishman - Orchid Lawn
Unbelievably weird, wacky and true things lovers do for courting, romance and marriage that you can do too.
Men & Women's Circle On Intimacy & Sexuality - Sugandha - South Volleyball Court Tree
An opportunity to question those of the opposite sex and/or those of the same sex on everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask!
Tie Dye Cutting - Brenda Smith - Tennis Shelter
Cut your t-shirt in ways to make it look sexy
Women's Circle On Intimacy & Sexuality - Sugandha - Nekked Man Garden
Let's reveal our joys and fears, our fantasies and our realities, what's working and what's not. A safe place to open up, share yourself and ask questions. For women.
Osho (AKA Bhagwan Shree Tajneesh) - Sugandha - Clubhouse Lounge
Called the "sex guru" by media. People that loved him called him a "zen tantric mystic." He called himself a "spiritual terrorist." Watch an interview; you decide.
Burlesque Dancing - Kira Fleishman - Pavilion
Fun and raunchy dancing to turn-of-the century music…
Given all of this is it really so hard why so many people when they hear naturists talk about “naturism isn’t about sex” react by thinking “that’s a bunch of bollocks”
Promoting this event seems to go against everything you are trying to achieve for the naturist movement. Please consider removing your support from this very sexualized event or at the very least please explain how your support of anything so sexualized as this festival could ever further society’s acceptance of naturism as a innocent, wholesome, family friendly activity.
It sure seems hypocritical of you to support this. It seems to go against the fundamental message of naturism.
Is nude becoming lewd?
That seems to be the trend with Florida's nudist clubs.
Yet they still allow children.
It seems like they are becoming what many thought they were all along.
Sexuality is part of nature, just as other elements of life those of us who view naturism as a healthy integration of our human lives within dynamic, complex ecosystems treat all elements of our existence. To any serious naturist, sexual denial or suppression is abnormal, pathological, and something mature humans simply don't do, as best is possible in a sick society around us.
It's sad that so much of US society is still stuck in Calvinist binary thinking that compartmentalizes complexities of life as if binary "good-evil" false dichotomies. That forces mature people to struggle to protect civil rights, and to balance how much we adapt to sick societal aspects, or try to flow around them. The folks organizing this naturist festival should be applauded for their vision and maturity by including in a balanced spectrum of activities several healthy and life affirming sessions that recognize sexuality as part of whole and healthy humans, and perhaps might help those in self-abusive denial grow a little alongside more enlightened neighbors.
One might guess (looking at larger festival schedules and regular events) that most residents of Sunsport Gardens know the differences among a djembe, bhoudran, and dhoumbek, as well as traits in common or not among Hindu, Buddhist, and Taoist philosophy or practices.
We might only hope that people in our global village and diverse culture did better learning and understanding those cultural realities before considering themselves prepared to parent children.
