Tap water on Fire Island

The recent alert concerning tap water on Fire Island (NY) seems to have been a mistake. Authorities are now saying that the E. coli contamination they detected in the water originated in their own testing lab, and not in the drinking water supply on the island.

Curiously, officials are still suggesting that residents and visitors to Fire Island boil their tap water before ingesting it.

Large numbers of naturists visit Fire Island during the summer, and news of this situation (as contradictory as it appears to be) will be of interest to them.
