NAC advises tactical restraint at this point. Kentucky Naturists: The Kentucky legislature is being asked to consider a dangerous anti-nudity bill. House Bill 59 would form a brand new section of the Kentucky Revised Statutes to create the crime of public indecency as a Class A misdemeanor. The proposed state law was introduced by Rep. Gary Tapp (R-Shelbyville) and is modeled after a severe anti-nudity statute imported from Indiana. It far exceeds existing Kentucky law, not only in its extreme definition of what constitutes indecency, but also in its increase of the penalty associated with skinny-dipping, sunbathing and other instances of mere non-sexual nudity. The Kentucky legislature has become a real minefield this year, with lawmakers switching party loyalties, a number of resulting lawsuits challenging the definition of majority and minority and an uneasy arrangement of shared power in the State Senate. The Naturist Action Committee has retained an experienced professional legislative advisor to guide us and to assist in the handling of HB 59. This communication from the Naturist Action Committee is an Advisory. It is NOT an Action Alert, and no action is suggested at this time. HB 59 has cleared the State House of Representatives, as expected, but NAC feels it can be stopped in the Senate, which is a more deliberate lawmaking body. NAC is suggesting that all Kentucky Naturists become aware of HB 59, but NAC strongly suggests that naturists DO NOT CONTACT LAWMAKERS at this time. There's a time for calls and letters, but this is not that time. The status of HB 59 may change quickly. NAC is monitoring the situation closely and will issue new information immediately if it is needed. Watch for NAC Action Alerts, Advisories and Updates on this and other issues. Meanwhile, you may learn more about HB 59 from the NAC web site, which includes the complete text of the bill. www.naturistsociety.com/NAC Thank you for your support of NAC and for your careful attention to the situation in Kentucky.
