DATE: October 6, 2012 SUBJECT: UNCLAD Art Show TO: All naturists and other interested parties
Greetings.
This is an Advisory from the Naturist Action Committee
(NAC). If you live in the Pacific Northwest or can be in Seattle next week, the UNCLAD Art Show deserves your attention. UNCLAD focuses on the art of the nude. Through a special grant to UNCLAD, the Naturist Education
Foundation (NEF) is sponsoring the appearance of speaker Vicki Artimovich on Saturday evening, October 13, as part of the three day show. Artimovich is a knowledgeable and entertaining speaker, and you’ll want to be there for
the experience. Call (425) 359-7974 for ticket information.
Naturists are fortunate to have events like this available to them. Your attendance - and perhaps a few bucks in the gift shop for something to take home - help
demonstrate to the community and to the art world that an eager audience supports nudity in art.
Here is the media release for the event:
UNCLAD RETURNS TO THE FLOYD OCTOBER 12-14
The 11th annual "UNCLAD" Art Show is set for October 12th - 14th, 10 am to 5 pm, at the Floyd
Norgaard Cultural Center in Stanwood.
The show features over 150 artworks -- all nudes -- by artists from across the country. A variety of styles and mediums are on display, from watercolors and oils to bronze,
steel, and glass sculpture. The Gift Shop has a variety of prints, cards, and gift items created by the participating artists.
"We're excited to be returning to the Floyd to run this fabulous fine art
show," commented co-directors Gayle Picken and Patti Pontikis, "it's a great gathering spot for the community."
UNCLAD originally started at a small gallery on Camano Island back in 2002. The first year,
29 artists participated and hundreds of people came to visit. "The theme is unique and intriguing, and that's what keeps people and artists coming back for the show," added Picken.
From 2006 to 2009,
Picken ran the show at the Floyd in Stanwood. At that point, local artist Patti Pontikis became involved and added a Wine Tasting event to benefit Relay for Life. Over the years, the show evolved and Pontikis and
Picken enjoyed running special events during the show as a fun way to support a great cause. They sponsored a Chef Competition one year, and Women's Day at UNCLAD the next. They also ran a 24-hour life drawing
marathon that kept artists drawing into the wee hours of the morning.
UNCLAD ran at the gallery in east Stanwood for a couple of years, but when Picken got out of the gallery business earlier this year, she
decided she wanted to run UNCLAD one more time.
With the help of local art groups, national and local nudist/naturist groups, a supportive business community, and the energy and enthusiasm
from participating artists, UNCLAD will once again provide a world-class art show in Stanwood.
Special Events include a lecture and reception with art historian and travel guide, Vicki Artimovich, on Saturday
evening, Oct. 13th, from 6 pm to 9 pm. (Tickets required for this evening event-call 425-359-7974.)
The "Floyd" is located at 27130 102nd St NW, about two blocks north of
SR 532. Show hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Oct 12-14, 10 am to 5 pm. Admission: $5 suggested donation.
For more information about the show and a preview of the Art, see www.uncladart.com or call Gayle at 425-359-7974.
